Kensington Development Apartment II

We transformed this 3-bedroom ground floor development in Kensington into a quiet escape by incorporating bespoke furniture and lighting. It’s a contemporary new build design surrounded by the neighbourhood’s arts and craft heritage. Unique craft pieces made from natural materials – wood, clay, and metals – were used to soften the space and create an artisanal look and feel.

The inspiration behind this layout was taken from the central courtyard that lets abundant natural light into the apartment. A natural colour palette was used to complement the outdoor view and create a sense of flow throughout the space. We used soft rust and sand colours to offer contrast to the leafy green plants in the courtyard.

The layout was dictated by the linear shape of the apartment, but we introduced curves to soften the space and create a serene atmosphere that offers privacy and comfort. This was achieved by carefully selecting pieces that had round, interesting shapes such as the curved armchair and tiered chandelier. We experimented with texture in this design to juxtaposition rough matt finishes with smooth metallic finishes to create different points of interest.

This space opens with the ground floor living room overlooking the spacious courtyard. Elements of luxury have been used to define each part of the apartment from the rounded coffee table to the curved chairs in the dining room. Descending the well-lit staircase takes you to the cosy bedrooms that use soft textures and neutral colours. This cohesive design establishes a luxurious, multi-functional space.
